Uncle Scam Says, Tell Us Your Life story and watch us steal your identity

How Safe Are You Online, Really ?

This is a Great Video to illustrate what’s really going on behind the scenes.

it’s the 2009 award winner and we add our voices to congratulate the brilliant young producer – Nathan Krochmal, who came up with such a clever presentation.

This video works like a charm. Nathan Krochmal’s video submission for the 2009 Computer Security Awareness video contest was selected because He Grew Up on The Internet, Literally.

This is another great video that gives us a true look at the problem with Social networking. remember this is how many facts about you arisem in the strangest places – because you told them, and they tracked what you said elsewhere. database compilation is the hottest new hacker networking trend. it’s just like when you tweet your life to the world, literally. because they sell all your details to the highest bidder, and then that person resells them until they are no longer sellable due to saturation. yes saturation.

This is for all you Facebookers,

When you fill in the blanks, and add pictures;  you are only opening your life up to a whole lot of unnecessary scrutiny and possible fraud. Facebook was rated by PI’s as one of the top ways to investigate you and your network – without you knowing; but giving permission.  trust us, we know.

“Yes You Are Giving Them Permission – because You Told Them

that’s the theme this month for Homeland Security. We think it’s a great time to measure your personal cyber security.  the way the internet is used these days constantly makes us each more vulnerable.

if we could take a few steps to insure our personal security, we’d all benefit alot more.  the website for Homeland Security has a list of tips and resources so we thought it would be a great time to add them to our treasure trove.

Even President Obama is Heeding the Call –

Cybersecurity Resources

The Department partners with a number of cybersecurity organizations throughout the year to educate all citizens on the importance of implementing effective cybersecurity practices. These partnerships also make National Cybersecurity Awareness Month possible by uniting public and private sector efforts to secure cyberspace. National Cybersecurity Awareness Month materials and resources can be found at the following sites:

National Cyber Security Awareness Month

October marks the sixth annual National Cyber security Awareness Month sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security. The theme for National Cyber security Awareness Month 2009 is “Our Shared Responsibility” to reinforce the message that all computer users, not just industry and government, have a responsibility to practice good “cyber hygiene” and to protect themselves and their families at home, at work and at school.

Americans can follow a few simple steps to keep themselves safe online. By doing so, you will not only keep your personal assets and information secure but you will also help to improve the overall security of cyberspace.

It is Our Shared Responsibility to stay safe online.

I think people tend to get a little too comfortable, spilling all of their personal goods into cyberspace. It pays to be cautious in this arena.

I always think it's funny how people put all this info out there. They make nasty comments about their job and wonder why they get fired, etc. Guess they never read Orwell's "1984" and don't understand the concept of Big Brother. Then there are the people who answer the phishing emails and get upset that all their info has been stolen. Ummm don't you pay attention to all these scams going on? Do you NOT watch the news or read a newspaper ever?

I've said over and over again that my sister's MySpace page will keep her from getting a good job one day. Of course, she has to apply for one first, but she doesn't listen when I try to tell her that employers do check for those things so having 200 photos of her drunk, at a bar, or flipping someone off is not a good thing. Then she has this whole section of pictures of my nephew. You can't just post picture after picture of your kids anymore, especially if you're not careful about keeping the facts of where you live secret. You have to worry about pedophiles tracking them down. Maybe she'll listen to me one day. I just hope something bad doesn't have to happen first for her to do so.

Very true. Sadly most of the people who have trouble have in fact been stupid/careless. I tend to think where and how you communicate on line is a key. I knit and crochet and collect items for charities. People do have my home address; but I don't post it on 12 blogs. People who are interested, email me and ask for it. These are people who's blogs I've been to, we've chatted; we have an idea who each other are and we're of similar minds and interest. People who do the Facebook and myspace and post simi nude pictures of themselves, lyrics of off color content, use bad language will be treated differently than people who communicate with others like themselves.

Staci, sorry your sister won't listen. You're giving her good advice.

want to make your baby the target of the

too many folks forget that if they want to

other peoples eyes, after the fact.
