This afternoon, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed into law two cottage food operation bills that now allow individuals to make or package certain home prepared foods in their own kitchens; instead of having to use a commercial food operation as was previously required. this was one of the reasons we had yet to open our bakery. the cost of a commercial kitchen rental is steep; and often not the best way for a start up to go, on a shoestring.
